Open Adobe Illlustrator. Choose File > New, then match your settings in the New Document Window to those shown below. Then click OK. Name - Lastname-Firstname-Infographic Artboards - 1 Width - 8.5 in Height - 11 in Bleed - all to 0 Color Mode - CMYK Raster Effects - (300 ppi) |

Although you can't alter photos in Illustrator (you'll need Photoshop for that), you can embed photos inside your Illustrator document. Photos are pixel based documents that are raster graphics (pixel dependent). Raster graphics, unlike vector graphics, will become distorted (pixelized) when you zoom in too far on them. Follow the video tutorial below to learn how to place a photo in your document, then use a clipping mask to only show part of the photo. |

Next you will make a vertical timeline of major milestones in your life. Be certain the following requirements are met.

Illustrator offers a variety of tools specifically for displaying data. These tools are big time-savers as building charts and graphs from hand could become very tedious. However, the charts and graphs created by these tools rarely are as aesthetically pleasing as those made by a skilled artist. Shown at the right are the names and location of automated data display tools. These tools are powerful because they can display data imported in through spreadsheets or databases. You will now use the Bar Graph Tool to display how you spend the hours of a typical school day. Follow the steps in the video tutorial below.

In the remaining open space, create two more graphical elements that represent two pieces of data. Here are some examples of things you can illustrate.
If you need a little more room, feel free to resize any of the elements you have already made.

When your document is complete be certain it is saved as smith-joe-infographic, then save your work to a location predetermined by your classroom instructor.
